Psarokokalo 2020 I Blessings and Vows by Katerina Zacharia I 14:54 I Documentary An octogenarian villager, Mrs. Metaxia Anaplioti, kept her vow for 49 years, lighting a candle daily at the 11th century Byzantine church of Hagioi Theodoroi in Vamvaka, Mani, in Southern Greece. This act of piety contributes to her personal sense of identity as much as to the collective identity of the village by asserting the connection to the particular place, keeping alive customs of the village’s forebearers. This continuity of customs must be protected much like the territory the church was originally built to protect, recycling building stones from earlier periods repurposed for the new construction. The pastiche of various historical periods in the building of the church, and the diachronic preservation of the church across ten centuries sustains collective identity claims for the villagers. A sense of historical continuity is sustained by memory, belief, imagination and narrative. The endless peaks and green mountains are dotted with rapeseed fields. Hope is that the animals, plants and people, people and cattle and sheep still survive tenaciously in this barren soil. They live together in this field for generations. It is like a mission calling the descendants of this village, whose voice spans thousands of mountains and rivers. Η ελπίδα είναι ότι τα ζώα, τα φυτά και οι άνθρωποι, οι άνθρωποι και τα βοοειδή και τα πρόβατα εξακολουθούν να επιβιώνουν επιθετικά σε αυτό το άγονο έδαφος. Ζουν μαζί σε αυτόν τον τομέα για γενιές. Είναι σαν μια αποστολή που καλεί τους απογόνους αυτού του χωριού, η φωνή του οποίου εκτείνεται σε χιλιάδες βουνά και ποτάμια. Επέστρεψα στο αγόρι Yak (Zhang Xuerong). Εδώ έρχεται η ομορφιά και η ελπίδα αυτού του πεδίου

A young lonely student moves into a cheap terrace room in downtown Athens. Marie, a young African woman lives in the same building, and in the eyes of the young man she represents everything he hates: she’s lazy, vulgar, stupid, foreigner. The more reasons he finds to hate her, the more attracted he gets to her confident and carefree manners. When Marie finds herself in a dangerous situation, the young man faces the dilemma whether to act or remain an observer. Όταν η Μαρία βρίσκεται σε επικίνδυνη κατάσταση, ο Μιχάλης αντιμετωπίζει το δίλημμα για να ενεργήσει ή να παραμείνει ένας απλός παρατηρητής.

Η ρουτίνα και σταθερότητα της αποδοχής της μοίρας και ύπαρξής μας ως μια δεδομένη συνθήκη αναταράσσεται όταν αποφασίσουμε ν’ ανοίξουμε την πόρτα για να δούμε τι κρύβεται πίσω της.
